It’s to COLD to go!!!

1 comments Posted by Big Al on November 24, 2008

Did any of you get to ride the Smokies this Fall? I got so busy doin’ the show I didn’t even get to check out the Fall colors that make riding the Great Smokey Mountains one of the coolest places to ride in the Carolinas. I still haven’t had the chance to ride The Dragon since I’ve moved from California either. I’ve heard The Dragon is awesome. Hope next season someone will ride it with me, but right now, “It’s too cold to ride.”     Alright, don’t call me a you know what!! It’s just that if I ride, …

If you’ve been fortune enough to attend the Grand Daddy of all Rallies; The Sturgis- Black Hills Rally then you probably know exactly where I’m going to direct you. Once you get to Rapid City which is a great centralized location you have to plan strategically because if you are like the rest of us you probably have about a week vacation instead of a …

Ride Thru the Smokey Mountains

0 comments Posted by Dawn Glencer on August 19, 2007

Thanks to Scott Walters of Liberty, SC for this one! Started out in Cherokee NC, take US 441 towards Gatlinburg.  First leg of the ride is though the Great Smokey Mountains.  Right before you reach Gatlinburg you turn left at the Sugarland Vistor Center, restrooms, info and vending machines.  Take TN 73 towards Townsend, plenty of gas stations and food here, as well as the Tuckaleechee Cavers.  About 60 miles from Cherokee you turn left onto the ramp for Foothills scenic parkway, at the bottom of the ramp turn right.  US 129 is at the end of the Foothills Scenic …

Gulf on one side, atlantic on the other. We always end up at Sloppy Joe’s and Hog’s Breath Saloon in Key West. What a great ride!

Thanks to Melissa (Missy) Steven of the SC Patriot Guard for this very helpful submission! The best rides of my life are in the mountains of NC. One of my favorite stretches of road is Highway 28 from Stecoah valley to Deals Gap or better known to motorcyclist as The Dragon.  While in the area you can stay at Kickstand Lodge in Stecoah valley with Mo and her daughter Courtney.  Kickstand Lodge is a campground which caters to motorcyclist.  There you can rent one of the two Fontana cabins or one of the camping cabins, there are also tent sites …

Myrtle Beach Bike Week - Fall Rally Oct - 3rd-7th - the best of the biker bars

1 comments Posted by Dawn Glencer on August 16, 2007

With new riders every year, right around this time, I get alot of folks sending me emails about making their first “pilgrimage” to Myrtle Beach for Bike Week.  The Fall Rally is next on the chopping block, coming up Wednesday Oct 3rd thru Sunday Oct 7th.  Its SLIGHTLY slower paced than the spring rally - bonus is you don’t have to wait an hour to get seated at a restaurant or stand in line forever waiting on drinks - and the weather tends to be a bit cooler…still warm but at least NOT in the high 90’s! There are so …

Riding in the Enchanted Circle in Northern New Mexico

Special thanks to Gabe Ginsberg of Las Vegas Trikes for this submission: www.lvtrikes.com - www.myspace.com/lasvegastrikes Another great ride is a smaller patch of land that isn’t as well known - the Enchanted Circle in Northern New Mexico.  Growing up in Albuquerque, I used to ride up there on my sport bike to, ummmm, impress young ladies I had met.  Granted I didn’t really experience the awe and the peaceful views until I went up there for the Red River Run.  Took 2 trikes out and about, up and down the hills, stopping at Eagle Nest Lake to take some pictures …

Riding in the Black Hills of South Dakota

Special thanks to Gabe Ginsberg of Las Vegas Trikes for this submission: www.lvtrikes.com - www.myspace.com/lasvegastrikes Black Hills of South Dakota, A Rally is a Rally is a Rally… What is exciting to me is the Black Hills, riding around for hours.  Favorite points of interest is Iron Mountain Road, Needles Highway, and Custer Park Loop.  3 Years ago when I got to go the Sturgis, my most memoriable experience was coming out of Custer National Park and having a herd of buffalo running along side of us…maybe 100 head or so.  And if that wasn’t exciting enough, going through one …

Lake Lure - a beautiful ride to the Mountains of NC

0 comments Posted by Dawn Glencer on August 16, 2007

Lake Lure is just over the South Carolina state line in North Carolina.  Its a beautiful scenic ride into the Mountains, but the roads can be a bit curvy so I wouldn’t recommend the trip to new riders just yet!  Simplest and most scenic route?  Take 85N to 26E towards Columbia.  Take exit 10 and turn right at the end of the ramp - follow all the way down til the road dead-ends at the light.  (Lake Bowen Country Club will be on your right).  Make a left onto Hwy 9 - you can take Hwy 9 all the way …

South Carolina Coast

0 comments Posted by Dawn Glencer on July 20, 2007

The lively, family-oriented Grand Strand, a booming resort area along the South Carolina coast, is one of the eastern seaboard’s megavacation centers. Myrtle Beach alone accounts for about 40% of the state’s tourism revenue. The main attraction, of course, is the broad, beckoning beach—60 miles of white sand, stretching from the North Carolina border south to Georgetown, with Myrtle Beach as the hub. Nightlife & Arts Music clubs in Myrtle Beach offer varying fare, including beach music, the Grand Strand’s unique ‘50s-style sound. Some clubs and resorts have sophisticated live entertainment in summer. Some hotels and resorts also have piano …
